Null and Void.

I was talking to someone the other day about conversation monopolizers and how no matter the conversation, not matter the topic or audience, they are always in control and always need their opinion to be heard. We were trying to think of ways to regain control or at least have enough of a voice to pipe up and be heard. We couldn’t come up with anything solid so we decided to think on it. Later that day or week or whatever, I got in an argument with a friend of mine over something pretty stupid where I was completely wrong and they were completely right or maybe we were both right but I just couldn’t make her see my point of view, something stupid like that where I just couldn’t get my point or argument across. About midway through the discussion I noticed a little something in her teeth… nothing outrageous but just enough to make me forget entirely everything we were talking about, the whole conversation was wiped clean from my mind and her entire argument from that point on was completely null and void. It didn’t matter how right she was, it didn’t matter how strong her argument was or how loud her voice got, nothing could get through to me. I didn’t care if I was right or wrong, I didn’t care if someone ran by and mooned me at that point. Someone could have ran up to me and pantsed me on the sidewalk and then asked me to marry them while doing magic tricks and riding a unicycle in a tri-cornered hat. It wouldn’t matter. Nothing, absolutely nothing trumps embarrassment. If there’s something on their face or in their teeth, maybe some thick black eye goop or a booger- doesn’t matter. The argument, statement, voice, whatever will not be heard. All that came before the sighting will be forgotten and the only thing to remain in the other person’s head will be “Ew, oh my God, that is so disgusting, please get rid of that right away.”
